Welcome to Hidden River Middle School
Home of the Hawks!

October 1, 2009

Dear Hawks & Hawk Families,

Just when we were getting used to September, October showed up! Things are already getting busy and we have great things planned for the coming weeks. Here are a few of the big items for consideration:

Electronic Newsletter – This week we are launching our electronic-only newsletter at Hidden River. Each week, you will receive an email with the link to our newsletter site. That link, once pasted into your browser’s address bar, will take you to the current newsletter and an archive of past newsletters. We include permissions slips, grade level notices, and other information throughout the year. I would like to thank you in advance for taking a few moments each week to review the newsletter.

Teacher Conferences – Curriculum Night has a very specific purpose: sharing what will be expected of your students this year. But, many families would like to spend a little more time with their student’s teachers. If this is true for you we have two very simple options. First, teachers meet with parents by phone or in person very frequently. If you would like to request a meeting with your student’s teachers, please feel free to contact them directly or Michelle Simeoni, our counselor, at 360-804-4100. Second, Conference Week offers all families time to spend with each of their student’s teachers. This year, Conference Week is scheduled for October 26 to 30. Please watch for more information about that event in subsequent newsletters.

Fundraising – Thank you all for participating in our Fall fundraisers. In an upcoming newsletter I will celebrate our success by sharing the details of the money that was raised. I recognize that finances for philanthropy are tight for many of our families – thank you very much for participating at the level that your family was able. Every dollar makes a difference for our kids and our school.

PE Uniforms—If you ordered a small or extra small PE uniform for your student at the Back-to-school barbeque or in the days following, they have arrived. Please ask your student to come by the office to pick it up or give our office a call.

Homecoming Week – Each year, our ASB chooses to support Monroe High School in their homecoming festivities. This year we have decided that we will show our support on Wednesday by wearing clothing in support of our favorite sports teams. On Thursday, we will wear school colors (Green, White, Grey/Silver) and hold an all-school pep rally presented by the 8th Grade. And, on Friday, we will wear Orange and Black showing our Bearcat Pride!

Principal

Important Notice About Internet Safety

The best way to protect children from online harm is to keep computers in a family area of the home. Visibility allows parents to look over the students' shoulders without being too oppressive. Young children should have a parental chaperone whenever they are on the Internet. Two sites that discuss these issues and offer advice can be found at www.safekids.com and www.safeteens.com.

Hyperlinks to staff web sites (located on the Staff page) are provided for student and parent convenience, and all staff web sites are hosted by external Internet service providers. Monroe Public Schools assumes no liability for content contained on external service provider sites. Filtering software from one of the providers listed below is recommended to prevent unauthorized access to sites beyond the District's control.
