Senior picture guidelines for Class of 2010

Honor your grad in 2010 yearbook

principal John LombardiMessage from the Principal

June 2009

Bearcat Parents, Families & Community,

Well, it’s difficult to believe that we are at the end of the school year! As with every end of the year, this one is bittersweet! With all of the celebrations and awards ceremonies that focus on all of the success and student achievement (see below); there is the realization that we will be saying goodbye to an exemplary group of
senior students who will leave a lasting impression on the school! Although we will miss all of you, we wish you luck in all of your future endeavors!

With the end of the year in mind, I want to thank all of you for making this year a positive one for your student(s)! The support that I have seen from parents throughout this year has been tremendous. Regardless of the event, or how far the event was from the school, Bearcat families are always there providing support. As I have said before, that connection to the school is essential to our overall success. So again, I thank you!

Lastly, I want to wish everyone a safe and happy summer! For those of you that are moving on, thank you for being part of the Bearcat family. For those of you who will be back for the 2009-2010 school year, we look forward to seeing you in August!

John Lombardi
Principal, Monroe High School

Two MHS Students Earn Top State Honors
The two top honors any high school student can earn from the State of Washington are the Washington State Scholars Award and the Washington Award for Vocational Excellence (WAVE). The Washington State Scholars Award was presented to Sean Higgins and the Washington Award for Vocational
Excellence (WAVE) was awarded to Taylor West

The Washington Scholars program recognizes the accomplishments of three high school seniors from each of the state’s 49 legislative districts. Students receive state scholarships for up to four years of public resident undergraduate tuition and fees. The scholarships can be used at any Washington public or independent college or university. High school principals nominate the top 1 percent of their school’s graduating senior class on the basis of academic achievement, leadership and community service. A committee, composed of high school principals and college admissions staff, selects the top four students in each legislative district, naming three as scholars and one as a scholar alternate.

The WAVE program honors three vocational students from each of the 49 state legislative districts, for outstanding achievement in vocational/technical education. High schools, skills centers, and community and technical colleges nominate students based on occupational proficiency, leadership, community activities, work experience, and other qualities. A committee, representing business, labor, education, the Legislature and citizens, makes the final selection. Students can use the grants at public two-year and four-year colleges and universities and accredited private colleges, universities and vocational schools in Washington.

Important Notice About Internet Safety

The best way to protect children from online harm is to keep computers in a family area of the home. Visibility allows parents to look over the students' shoulders without being too oppressive. Young children should have a parental chaperone whenever they are on the Internet. Two sites that discuss these issues and offer advice can be found at www.safekids.com and www.safeteens.com.

Hyperlinks to staff web sites (located on the Staff page) are provided for student and parent convenience, and all staff web sites are hosted by external Internet service providers. Monroe Public Schools assumes no liability for content contained on external service provider sites. Filtering software from one of the providers listed below is recommended to prevent unauthorized access to sites beyond the District's control.
