Welcome to Monroe Middle School
Home of the Mountaineers!

November 2007

Dear Families of Monroe Middle School

This year the staff of Monroe Middle School is looking for ways to recognize our students for the many good things they can do. One of our new additions is Student of the Month. Each month a girl and a boy are chosen by the teachers at each grade level. These students are chosen based on how well they follow the "Mountaineer Way". The students of the month for September were M. Ourada and C. Olson from 6th grade; E. Villalobos and F. Arnold from 7th grade and M. Newell and C. Bunge from 8th grade. The students of the month for October were J. Hawkins and C. Hettinga from 6th grade; E. Wichser and D. Marashi from 7th grade and E. Beebe and C. Murphy from 8th grade. These students were recognized at our recognition assembly on the 31st.

Also recognized for excellence were Z. Kirshbaum and K. Westra for qualifying for and playing in the All-State Honor Band. All of our fall athletes were recognized as well although they will receive their awards from the coaches.

Mrs. Gould and her Honors class are organizing this year's Veterans Day assembly that will take place on November 8 from 9 to 10 AM. You are all invited to this time to pay tribute to those who served our nation both past and present.

Another opportunity to recognize our students will be at the Honor Roll Breakfast which will be held at 8AM on November 30. You will receive an invitation home with your student that has earned a 3.5 GPA or better on their report card.

We encourage our families to talk about what it means to be a Mountaineer and to follow the Mountaineer Way. It is included below.

The Mountaineer Way

I will be a responsible citizen.
I will respect myself and others.
I will choose to learn
I will allow the teacher to teach and other students to learn.
I will help create a safe and positive learning environment.
I will do my personal best.

Sincerely,

Important Notice About Internet Safety

The best way to protect children from online harm is to keep computers in a family area of the home. Visibility allows parents to look over the students' shoulders without being too oppressive. Young children should have a parental chaperone whenever they are on the Internet. Two sites that discuss these issues and offer advice can be found at www.safekids.com and www.safeteens.com.

Hyperlinks to staff web sites (located on the Staff page) are provided for student and parent convenience, and all staff web sites are hosted by external Internet service providers. Monroe Public Schools assumes no liability for content contained on external service provider sites. Filtering software from one of the providers listed below is recommended to prevent unauthorized access to sites beyond the District's control.
