Park Place Middle School
Welcome to Park Place Middle School - home of the Cougars!
November, 2009
The Park Place teachers were pleased to see so many parents attend conferences last week. We had 349 of our 501 student learning plans distributed to parents at the entrance, or close to 70% of our families participating in conferences. If your schedule prevented attendance last week, you can check your student’s progress via the internet. Most families have already taken advantage of “Family Access” to track grades, attendance, and foodservice purchases. If you need to sign up, start at the Monroe Public Schools website, www.monroe.wednet.edu, then select Park Place, and follow the prompts. Deposits to student lunch accounts can also be made using the school district website, allowing parents to use a credit card, preventing the chance of a child misplacing a check.
This year we are again working with our students to use the agenda/planner books that we have provided. Parents can partner with us by regularly looking at the agenda. There should be a notation for each class daily, with routine and long-term assignments written in the appropriate dates. Two students are randomly picked each day to bring the agenda to the office. If it is “up to date”, that is, has a daily skill or lesson in each class, weekly goals, and homework assignments, the student receives an award. This term we have had certificates for a child’s meal or milkshake at Red Robin, along with a pencil and notepad. We willingly accept donations of these types of recognitions, if you or your place of work has items to share with our school.
A HUGE thank you to the families who participated in our annual magazine drive/cookie dough fund raiser! The ASB exceeded the goal of $18,000 in gross sales by about $5,000. Not only will this help fund our student activity program, but the principal’s hair was blue all day October 30, keeping the promise of hair coloring if we got to $20,000.
Note the food drives that are currently underway. We are helping the high school “Fill a bus” this week for our local food bank. Next week we start our PPM food drive. Also check the enclosed calendar for upcoming activities and meetings.JoAnn Carbonetti, Principal

Important Notice About Internet Safety
The best way to protect children from online harm is to keep computers in a family area of the home. Visibility allows parents to look over the students' shoulders without being too oppressive. Young children should have a parental chaperone whenever they are on the Internet. Two sites that discuss these issues and offer advice can be found at www.safekids.com and www.safeteens.com.
Hyperlinks to staff web sites (located on the Staff page) are provided for student and parent convenience, and all staff web sites are hosted by external Internet service providers. Monroe Public Schools assumes no liability for content contained on external service provider sites. Filtering software from one of the providers listed below is recommended to prevent unauthorized access to sites beyond the District's control.
