Park Place Middle School
Application for Honors Program
Welcome to Park Place Middle School - home of the Cougars!

Families and school staff share a commitment to this community’s youth. Children are at the heart of everything Monroe Public Schools does. It should come as no surprise that preserving strong educational programs has been our priority during the past months’ budget talks as the economy has soured and the resulting decimation of state support for K-12 education. Regrettably, the state deficit coupled with Monroe’s declining enrollment has made budget action necessary. Not all the budget decisions will be popular and some will be downright distasteful.
With 90+ fewer students next year and less state funding, Monroe was approximately $2.6 million short of a balanced budget for next year. Savings sought through the Budget Review Committee’s work along with a voluntary wage freeze by administrators helped lessen the impact as did staff retirements and resignations. The School Board also dipped into reserves to keep opportunities available for Monroe youth. Even with these efforts some staff members learned the painful news that their positions will not continue to be funded. Each one is a valuable member of our Monroe team and is valued as a colleague and, in many cases, as a friend.
These painful decisions had to be made to keep programs available for children. We are honored to help your children learn and hope we will have your continued support during this tough economic time. The education of your children will always be our top priority. Early budget information is posted at www.monroe.wednet.edu

JoAnn Carbonetti, Principal

Important Notice About Internet Safety
The best way to protect children from online harm is to keep computers in a family area of the home. Visibility allows parents to look over the students' shoulders without being too oppressive. Young children should have a parental chaperone whenever they are on the Internet. Two sites that discuss these issues and offer advice can be found at www.safekids.com and www.safeteens.com.
Hyperlinks to staff web sites (located on the Staff page) are provided for student and parent convenience, and all staff web sites are hosted by external Internet service providers. Monroe Public Schools assumes no liability for content contained on external service provider sites. Filtering software from one of the providers listed below is recommended to prevent unauthorized access to sites beyond the District's control.
