Park Place Middle School
Welcome to Park Place Middle School - home of the Cougars!
April 2008
WASL testing begins next week. This can be a stressful time for both students and staff. Please encourage your students to continue to “do their best”, as the test results will be used in planning for succeeding years. Parents need to help students in planning, so that there is time for a good night’s sleep and time in the morning to get a good breakfast each day. Testing is during the first two hours of the school day. Students need to be here on time so they can be in assigned rooms, ready to begin at 7:50. Parents are encouraged to send an extra granola bar, piece of fruit or other healthy snack to eat at testing break for an added burst of energy.
Next week marks the beginning of the final quarter of the school year. Please continue to use “Family Access” to check your child’s grades on a regular basis. For those who do not access the internet regularly, take time to ask your child to share the agenda/planner that all students were issued in September. Many parents use this as a means to check assignments as well as communicate with teachers. Students need to get in the habit of recording both daily and long term assignments in the agenda. It is easy to let down on some of our good habits as we approach the end of the year. Remember that each quarter is equally important, each quarter is a separate grade, and there is learning that needs to happen through June 13th!
We are scheduling our first “Student Led Conferences” for May 5. Your child should be contacting you to set up a time for parents/guardians and any other significant adults to participate. These conferences should be about 20 minutes in length, and will give your child a chance to explain what they have learned this year, goals are being set for next year, and the direction they see themselves moving toward for life after high school. I encourage you to make every effort to participate.
The INFORMATION NIGHT FOR NEXT YEAR’S 6TH grade students and parents will be held Wednesday, May 7 at 7pm beginning in the gym. Please join us for a fun and informative evening. You are invited to take a self-guided tour of the campus and speak with counselors.

Important Notice About Internet Safety
The best way to protect children from online harm is to keep computers in a family area of the home. Visibility allows parents to look over the students' shoulders without being too oppressive. Young children should have a parental chaperone whenever they are on the Internet. Two sites that discuss these issues and offer advice can be found at www.safekids.com and www.safeteens.com.
Hyperlinks to staff web sites (located on the Staff page) are provided for student and parent convenience, and all staff web sites are hosted by external Internet service providers. Monroe Public Schools assumes no liability for content contained on external service provider sites. Filtering software from one of the providers listed below is recommended to prevent unauthorized access to sites beyond the District's control.
