Park Place Middle School
Welcome to Park Place Middle School - home of the Cougars!
November, 2009
With all the news of late regarding the H1N1 (Swine Flu) virus, it is important that families keep in mind that the added stress of holiday travel, visiting relatives, and other obligations that arise this time of year may impact the health of our students.
I urge you to continue to maintain consistent schedules as much as possible to help students focus on necessary school assignments, despite the media distractions and family obligations that are so much a part of this time of year. Having balanced meals, study time and sufficient sleep will help students maintain their grades, their moods and stay healthy at this festive time of year.
On Tuesday, November 10, we met in the gym for our annual Veteran’s Day assembly. Our symphonic wind ensemble opened the assembly with the Stars Spangled Banner, and also played America the Beautiful to open the assembly. After Mr. Garrison gave us an overview of the history of Armistice Day and it’s transition to a day to honor all veterans, our 11 visiting veteran’s introduced themselves and their branches of service. We then had an interesting talk from Retired Army Colonel Grethe Cammermeyer, who spoke of the changes that have taken place in the opportunities in the military, especially for women. Our students were very well behaved and respectful throughout the assembly. Student behavior and the outstanding play of our band were two things that most of our guests mentioned to me in the short social we hosted for our guests and the ASB officers following the assembly.
Please note the upcoming “Dine Out”, to be held on December 1st at the Teddy Bears BBQ on Main Street. Be sure to pick up a flyer, either at the front desk in the office, or at the cookie dough pick up this Friday. You must hand in a flyer when ordering, so that our PTSA will get 15% of the price of your food, to assist in their fund raising efforts for our school library. Our district “book buying” budget was eliminated this year.
The Park Place staff wishes each of our families a Happy Thanksgiving. May this time of remembrance help each of us take stock of the blessings we have in family and friends.JoAnn Carbonetti, Principal

Important Notice About Internet Safety
The best way to protect children from online harm is to keep computers in a family area of the home. Visibility allows parents to look over the students' shoulders without being too oppressive. Young children should have a parental chaperone whenever they are on the Internet. Two sites that discuss these issues and offer advice can be found at www.safekids.com and www.safeteens.com.
Hyperlinks to staff web sites (located on the Staff page) are provided for student and parent convenience, and all staff web sites are hosted by external Internet service providers. Monroe Public Schools assumes no liability for content contained on external service provider sites. Filtering software from one of the providers listed below is recommended to prevent unauthorized access to sites beyond the District's control.
