principal Janna DmocholoskNovember 17, 2009

Dear Salem Woods families,

Welcome to Salem Woods Elementary School!  We serve approximately 500 students in pre-school through grade five and more than 50 staff members.  We believe in providing a safe, fun, and rich learning environment.  We believe in meeting the needs of all children in order for them to reach their full learning potential.
In addition to our regular classrooms Salem Woods also provides programs to help meet the needs of students in our attendance area and across the district.  Those include:

  • Center for visually impaired students in grades K-5 across the district
  • Autism pre-school for students across the district
  • Special education classes and Life Skills classroom
  • Speech Language, Occupational Therapy, Counseling, and Physical Therapy services
  • Learning support in the areas of reading and math
  • Kindergarten reading support program
  • Enrichment programs including after school clubs and activities, daily recess program through the YMCA, student government, PTA, parent volunteers, and more

We have strong parent and community partnerships and believe that through working together all children will learn and succeed.  I invite you to join us in the exciting and rewarding adventure of growing tomorrow’s citizens and leaders today.

Vision

We at Salem Woods Elementary School believe in the development of life-long learners who can confidently meet the demands of an ever-changing world. We are dedicated to academic challenge and success for every student. Our aim is that each student gain knowledge and skills, work cooperatively with others, and develop feelings of self worth. We believe the key to realizing these goals lies in providing a safe, nurturing environment which accommodates the diverse needs and abilities of all students. We are committed to making the learning process a partnership between families and school

Sincerely,

Important Notice About Internet Safety

The best way to protect children from online harm is to keep computers in a family area of the home. Visibility allows parents to look over the students' shoulders without being too oppressive. Young children should have a parental chaperone whenever they are on the Internet. Two sites that discuss these issues and offer advice can be found at www.safekids.com and www.safeteens.com.

Hyperlinks to staff web sites (located on the Staff page) are provided for student and parent convenience, and all staff web sites are hosted by external Internet service providers. Monroe Public Schools assumes no liability for content contained on external service provider sites. Filtering software from one of the providers listed below is recommended to prevent unauthorized access to sites beyond the District's control.
