MHS Choir Groups Headed to State

Earlier this month members of the Monroe High School choir group came home from the Regional Solo/Ensemble Contest with outstanding results.

There are six categories for vocal ensembles that can continue on to State in April based on their score at Regionals: Large Mixed Ensemble, Small Mixed Ensemble, Small Men's Ensemble, Large Men's Ensemble, Small Women's Ensemble, and Large Women's Ensemble. Of the six categories, MHS received Superior scores (the highest possible) in five! MHS also placed 1st, and are going to State in four categories.

MHS groups that made State were:

MHS Intrinsic (Jazz Choir) - placed first and made State for Large Mixed Ensemble:

  • Thomas Cripe

The Day Be-4 (Guy's Barbershop) - placed first and made State for Small Men's Tenor/Bass Ensemble:

  • Thomas Cripe

The Broccoli Band (Girl's Barbershop) - placed first and made State for Small Women's Soprano/Mezzo/Alto Ensemble:

  • Maleah Haverly

MHS Varsity Men (Varsity Choir) - placed first and made State for Large Men's Tenor/Bass Ensemble:

  • Hunter Johnson

MHS Treble Choir also received a superior score and placed 3rd in the region for Large Women's Ensemble:

Tenor Soloist with Superior Score:

  • Dylan Nichols (3rd place in region)

"There is much to celebrate for MHS Choir after the regional contest," said MHS Choir Director Ryan Hyde. "We were VERY successful this year, and I am very proud of these kids!"
