School Board Student Representatives Take Oath of Office

Two student school board representatives were officially sworn in at the September 26th school board meeting. For the 2022-23 school year, Nathan Burrell, a senior at Monroe High School, will be serving the second year of his two-year term, and Laura Wittenberg, a junior at Sky Valley Education Center, will be serving the first year of her two-year term.

Out of 11 Monroe School District juniors who submitted interest in serving as the student representative on the school board for the 2022-23 school year, four students were selected by the board to move forward with an interview. Interviews were conducted by Director Jeremiah Campbell, Director Molly Barnes, Student Representative Nathan Burrell, and MSD's Director of Communications, Erin Zacharda.

Impressed with her desire to be a voice for her fellow students and her drive to serve her community, Laura Wittenberg was selected by the interview committee to fill the open student representative position. Laura will serve alongside Nathan during her junior year and will move into the senior student representative position when Nathan graduates.
