Bond & Levy Election Results + Community Survey

Bond & Levy Election Results

Dear Monroe School District Community,

As you are hopefully aware, Monroe School District had two funding measures on the February 10th Special Election ballot: a School Construction Bond and a renewal of our Education Levy. With nearly all ballots counted and official certification by the Snohomish County Elections Department scheduled for tomorrow, we are able to share the results with confidence.

We are pleased to report that the renewal of our expiring four-year Education Levy passed by 72 votes, receiving (50.42% approval) as of today. Levies require 50% plus one vote for passage. With a margin this close, it is a powerful reminder that every single ballot truly matters. We sincerely appreciate everyone who took the time to participate in this important decision.

This levy renewal will continue essential local funding for the next four years, helping bridge the gap between what the state provides for “basic education” and the full cost of the programs, services, and staff that support Monroe School District students every day. Local levy funding accounts for more than 15% of our annual budget, and we are deeply grateful for our community’s continued investment in the education of our students.

While we had hoped for a different outcome, the School Construction Bond did not pass. Bonds require 60% voter approval, and the measure received 48.92% approval. Without this funding, we will not be able to move forward at this time with the proposed school construction, safety and security improvements, accessibility upgrades, modernization projects, and major maintenance work intended to ensure safe, adequate, and modern learning environments.

Given our district-wide ongoing facility needs, the School Board will soon discuss the bond results and consider potential next steps, which may include pursuing another bond measure or exploring a smaller capital facilities levy in the future.

To better understand our community’s perspectives, we invite you to complete a short, anonymous survey. Your feedback will help guide future decisions as we work to address the essential needs of our schools.

Sincerely,

Shawn Woodward
