Celebrating Our Education Support Professionals 2026

Education Support Professionals Week 2026

This week we celebrate Education Support Professionals Week, a time to recognize the many people whose work helps our schools thrive, feel welcoming, and support students every single day.

Education support professionals, also known as classified staff, include paraeducators, office staff, bus drivers, security specialists, custodians, technology staff, maintenance teams, food service staff, and many others. Whether they’re in classrooms, hallways, offices, or behind the scenes, they are absolutely essential to the experience students have in our schools.

This year, I wanted to share a few examples of recent nominations from our employee recognition program that highlight the impact these team members make:

  • Lesia Wallis, Bus Driver – Lesia takes pride in keeping students safe and making every ride a positive experience. Families say they feel confident their children are in good hands with her behind the wheel, and students love interacting with her because she is always friendly, smiling, and part of the village that helps kids thrive.
  • Sam Gunter, Paraeducator at Salem Woods Elementary – Sam adapts lessons with imaginative twists, finds new ways to spark confidence, and offers quiet support that makes a big difference. She helps create a space where all students can learn and belong.
  • Ken Chanthavong, Technology at the District Administration Office – Ken plays a critical role in making sure students who rely on communication devices have what they need to connect and express themselves while at school.
  • Pushpa Patel, Paraeducator at Chain Lake Elementary – Pushpa treats every student with dignity and compassion. In a busy kindergarten classroom, she stays calm, brings joy through brain breaks, and has a remarkable way of making every child feel like they belong.
  • Lizbeth Nogales, Paraeducator at Frank Wagner Elementary – Liz demonstrates an exceptional ability to connect with students in her program, ensuring they feel supported and included both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Maria Gaspar Santos, Office Support at Monroe High School – Maria is a warm, welcoming presence in the main office, greeting students, families, and visitors with kindness and patience while building trusting relationships that encourage improved attendance.
  • Dusty Rose, Custodian at Hidden River Middle School – Dusty’s exceptional work ethic and positive attitude help ensure the school is clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone who walks through the doors.

These examples represent just a small glimpse of the dedication and care our education support professionals bring to their work. Their efforts help create the environments where students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

If you see one of our education support professionals this week, please take a moment to thank them. Their work truly makes a difference in the lives of students and in the strength of our school community.

To all of our education support professionals: thank you for everything you do.

With appreciation,
