Maltby Elementary Earns State Recognition for Closing Gaps

All Maltby Elementary Staff holding "Washington State Recognized School" Banner Award

We are proud to announce that Maltby Elementary has been recognized by the Washington State Board of Education and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction for Closing Gaps during the 2024–25 school year as part of the Washington School Recognition Program.

This recognition celebrates the progress made by subgroups of Maltby students, including multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and students qualifying for free or reduced-price meals, in both growth and overall achievement on the statewide Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA), as well as in attendance. These improvements reflect meaningful progress in closing opportunity and achievement gaps.

Recognition is based on data from the Washington School Improvement Framework and is an honor earned by only 16% of schools statewide. This achievement is a testament to the dedication, heart, and relentless commitment of our educators and staff, who work tirelessly every day to support the success of every student.

“We are proud of everyone who was recognized this year,” said Mary Fertakis, Chair of the Washington State Board of Education. “This recognition reflects the hard work, dedication, and commitment happening every day in these schools — from students showing up ready to learn, to educators and administrators providing meaningful support and instruction.”

This statewide acknowledgment also highlights the powerful partnership between educators, students, and families, all working together to build supportive learning environments where every student can thrive.
