Elena Montes Avila - Paraeducator, Frank Wagner Elementary

Elena Montes Avila exemplifies Belonging and Equity by acting as a vital bridge for Hispanic children and families at Fryelands Elementary. Through her proactive outreach and advocacy efforts, she has worked to create a warm and welcoming space where Hispanic families can feel empowered to engage and connect more with the greater school community.

​Her Student-Centered heart is evident in the way she champions the well-being of all children across the district due to her coexisting mom/staff identity, from Hidden River to Fryelands and Frank Wagner. It is clear that Elena’s commitment to these communities goes far beyond her job description and work with the district; she consistently volunteers her time to build strong, inclusive partnerships between parents and staff. She is a dedicated advocate whose passion for our students and families has brought immense light and unity to our community.

Bethany is truly deserving of this nomination, as she embodies our core values in everything she does. She consistently demonstrates excellence through her commitment to continuous improvement, going above and beyond to provide high-quality, evidence-based instruction and service. Her work with our UFLI implementation is just one example of her system-level impact, including ongoing training, model lessons, data conversations, guiding UFLI leads, and collaborating with staff.

Her work is deeply student-centered, keeping student growth at the heart of every decision and maintaining a strong belief that all students can achieve at high levels. Bethany also exemplifies collaboration, partnering effectively with colleagues and fostering meaningful teamwork across our system. Her recent collaboration with our 3rd–5th grade teams was a positive example of cross-district partnership. Through her positive attitude and dedication to lifelong learning, she sets a powerful example of what it means to grow, lead, and inspire.
