Monroe School District Names New Chief Financial Officer

Introducing Billy Wessell as CFO

We are excited to announce that Billy Wessell has been selected as the next Chief Financial Officer for the Monroe School District.

Billy brings a wide range of experience in school finance and operations, having worked in both large and small school districts throughout his career. Most recently, he has served as Deputy Superintendent of Administrative Services in the New Jerusalem Elementary School District in California. Previously, he served as Chief Financial Officer for Bethel School District here in Washington, where he supported a large district with complex financial planning, budgeting, and operational oversight.

What stood out throughout the hiring process was Billy’s strong focus on supporting students and schools through thoughtful financial leadership, collaboration, and long-term planning. His experience across districts of different sizes gives him a unique perspective that will be a great fit for Monroe.

“I am honored and excited to join Monroe School District and grateful for the opportunity to serve the students, staff, families, and community,” said Billy. “I believe thoughtful and responsible management of district resources plays an important role in supporting students and schools. My leadership philosophy centers on collaboration, transparency, and service, and I look forward to working together in support of student success.”

We also want to recognize and thank our current Chief Financial Officer, Brenda Hunt, who has accepted a position with the Stanwood-Camano School District. Brenda will continue serving in the Monroe School District through June 30, 2026. We are deeply grateful for her 17 years of dedicated service and leadership in our district.

Billy will officially begin with Monroe School District on July 1 and will spend time in the district prior to that working alongside Brenda and our fiscal/payroll team to support a smooth transition.

Please join us in welcoming Billy Wessell to the Monroe School District and in thanking Brenda Hunt for her years of service while wishing her the very best in her new role.
