Shawn Woodward Selected as Next Superintendent

Shawn Woodward

The Monroe School District Board of Directors selected Shawn Woodward as Monroe School District’s next superintendent, pending successful contract negotiations, during a special meeting on Thursday, January 26.

Woodward, who is currently the Superintendent of the Mead School District, is expected to take the reins as Monroe School District’s new leader on July 1, 2023. Interim Superintendent Dr. Marci Larsen will remain as the district’s leader until her contract ends on June 30, 2023.

Woodward was one of three finalists along with Greg Schwab, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education and Facilities and Operations for the Edmonds School District, and Yvonne (Voni) Walker, Superintendent of Manson School District. Each candidate spent an entire day in the district meeting with students, parents, staff, administrators, and community members. Read his full bio here.

“We are excited to welcome Shawn to the Monroe community,” Board President Jennifer Bumpus said. “The Board was incredibly impressed with his extensive experience that aligns with our needs. This was a difficult decision because of how deep our applicant pool was, and we feel strongly we have selected the best candidate to lead the Monroe School District.”

The school board would like to thank all of the staff, students, and community members who participated in the process of selecting our new superintendent over the past several months.

In light of this announcement, the special school board meeting that was scheduled for Friday, January 27th at 7:30 a.m. has been canceled.
