Dear Monroe School District Community,
I’m excited to share a video update about some of the safety and security upgrades we’ve recently completed across the district. These improvements align with one of the five key goals in our strategic plan: ensuring all students are safe, known, valued, and supported.
Last spring, our Director of Safety and Security identified areas throughout our school district needing safety and security upgrades and shared these recommendations with the School Board. Recognizing the importance of keeping our students and staff safe, the School Board allocated $300,000 from the district’s fund balance to support these necessary improvements.
(Quick note: The fund balance is like the district’s savings account—it’s the money left over after all expenses are paid, helping us cover unexpected costs, emergencies, or future needs.)
Here’s a look at the safety upgrades we’ve recently completed:
- Safety fencing: Installed at Maltby Elementary and Monroe High School to better control who enters and exits these campuses.
- Vape detection devices: Added in student bathrooms at Monroe High School to alert administrators and security staff when vaping occurs.
- Video doorbell entry systems: Now at most schools (recently added at Monroe High School), allowing office staff to control access while keeping all doors locked.
- Upgraded visitor management system: This system requires visitors to present a photo ID for a background check before entry, helping staff track everyone on campus.
If you haven’t had a chance yet, I encourage you to check out our strategic plan. It’s guiding everything we do as a district over the next five years.
As always, I welcome the opportunity to connect with you.
Sincerely,
Shawn Woodward
Superintendent
