You're Invited: Superintendent Finalist Candidate Interviews

Superintendent Finalist Community Interviews

The successful operation of a school district requires a close, effective working relationship between the publicly elected school board directors and the superintendent. The superintendent is the board’s professional advisor, to whom the board delegates executive responsibility to manage and lead the district. As such, the selection of a superintendent is one of the most important decisions a school board makes and it is not a decision Monroe's school board directors are taking lightly.

While the selection of a superintendent is solely a school board's decision to make, Monroe's school board directors know that a successful superintendent must be a good fit for our community and whose priorities and values must align with those of our community as a whole. With the help of HYA Associates, the search firm guiding the school board through the superintendent search process, the school board considered the input collected from over 700 community members on the desired experience, characteristics, and skills of our next superintendent as they reviewed applicants and conducted semi-finalist interviews.

Now that the school board has narrowed the candidate pool down to three finalists, all community members are invited to observe a public interview with each of the candidates and provide input thereafter. A panel of community members, comprised of 12 parents and community leaders, were given the opportunity to provide input on the types of questions that will be asked during these public interviews. The candidates will also have the opportunity to ask the community panelists questions to help them better understand our community. Monroe School District's Executive Director of Human Resources, Dan Johnston, will be facilitating these interviews.

These community interviews will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 26th and will last until 8:25 p.m. at the Monroe School District Administration Office (14692 179th Ave NE, Monroe). All community members are invited to observe in-person or via Zoom. Spanish translation will be provided.

All observers and panelists will be invited to fill out an online form to share their input on the candidates following the interviews. This online form will be open from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. All input received via this form will be reviewed by the school board and taken into consideration as they make the very important decision of selecting our next superintendent. School board directors will not be attending the community interviews as they will be conducting interviews with each individual candidate in an executive session (closed to the public) at the same time as the community panel.

The schedule of candidate interviews for the community panel is as follows:

6:00-6:45 p.m. - Yvonne (Voni) Walker

6:50- 7:35 p.m. - Shawn Woodward

7:40 - 8:25 p.m. - Greg Schwab

If you haven't already, we invite you to read the candidates' bios on our website, found here. These bios were provided to us by each candidate. We also invite you to visit our superintendent search webpage to learn more about the search process.
