Superintendent Search

The Monroe School District School Board has launched a formal process to search for the next superintendent of our school district. They are conducting a national search to identify a qualified educator to fill this leadership role and are committed to a transparent and thorough process as they search for a superintendent to lead the district. Community members, families, and staff will be invited to engage in the process and details will be shared below.


Timeline

This timeline will serve as a calendar of important dates and milestones in the stakeholder engagement and superintendent selection process. It will be updated as needed and is subject to change.

December 5, 2022

2nd Community Forum, 6:00-7:00 p.m. VIRTUAL: Zoom link

We value our community’s input and involvement in our district and want to ensure that we provide ample opportunities for community members to share their input for the current superintendent search. To make up for the technical difficulties we experienced during the first Community Forum on November 16th, we have scheduled another community forum via Zoom for December 5th from 6:00-7:00 p.m. This community forum will be held online only and all community members are invited to participate. Spanish translation will be available.

Special School Board Meeting: Semi-finalist Interviews

  • 8:00 a.m. - Meeting called to order: Zoom link
  • Executive session (closed to the public) to interview candidates
  • 5:45 p.m. - Resume public meeting and vote on selection of finalist candidates: Zoom link

Finalist candidate interviews & community engagement:

  • 8:30-11:30 - Candidate school tours at Frank Wagner Elementary, Sky Valley Education Center, and Monroe High School
     
  • 12:15-5:20 - Stakeholder interviews with finalist candidates:
    • District office staff panel
    • High school student panel
    • Executive cabinet staff panel
    • Principal & assistant principal staff panel
    • Certificated staff panel
    • Classified staff panel
      All staff & student panelists will be invited to share their input on the candidates via an online form following these interviews. All input received via this form will be reviewed by the school board and taken into consideration as they make the very important decision of selecting our next superintendent.
       
  • 6:00-8:25 p.m. - Community panel interviews:
    • All community members are invited to observe the finalists' interviews with a community panel. Observers may attend in-person at the Monroe School District Administration Office or via Zoom. All community panelists and observers will be invited to share their input on the candidates via an online form following the interviews. All input received via this form will be reviewed by the school board and taken into consideration as they make the very important decision of selecting our next superintendent.
    • Community Input Form - this survey closed at 9:00 p.m. on January 26th
       
  • 5:00 p.m. - Special School Board Meeting:
    • 5:00 p.m. - opening of meeting & adjournment to executive session: Zoom link
    • 6:00-8:25 p.m. - School board interviews with finalist candidates in executive session (closed to the public) 
    • 8:25-9:45 p.m. - School board deliberations
       
  • 9:45 p.m. - Resume public meeting (or announce meeting extension) and possible action item to select superintendent: Zoom link

The Monroe School District Board of Directors selected Shawn Woodward as Monroe School District’s next superintendent, pending successful contract negotiations, during a special meeting on Thursday, January 26.  

Superintendent Finalist Candidates Selected

We are pleased to announce that the school board has selected the following three candidates to move forward to the finalist round of interviews: Greg Schwab, Yvonne (Voni) Walker, and Shawn Woodward.

Through small group listening sessions, one-on-one conversations, community forums, and an online ThoughtExchange survey, 610 community members shared their input for the superintendent search.
