We’re thrilled to announce that Spenser Marin and Luis Padilla, two of our devoted paraeducators, have been awarded the Lynn G. Balk Scholarship! Spenser serves as a paraeducator at Chain Lake Elementary School, while Luis supports students as a paraeducator at Frank Wagner Elementary School. Each recipient will receive a $2,000 scholarship to support their pursuit of becoming certificated teachers. This scholarship supports Monroe School District Public School Employees (PSE – classified staff) in pursuing their dreams of becoming certificated teachers.

The Lynn G. Balk Scholarship is generously provided by Lynne and Tony Balk. Lynne—a lifelong Monroe resident, parent, and former Monroe School District principal—along with her husband Tony, established this scholarship to recognize the resilience, commitment, and impact of PSE staff who work tirelessly to shape the future of education in our own community. Their deep-rooted belief in the power of community and empowering educators is truly commendable.

In an inspiring show of continued support, the Balks have committed to awarding the scholarship annually for the next several years to up to two Monroe School District PSE staff members who are actively pursuing their teaching credentials. This long-term commitment represents a meaningful investment in the future of both our educators and our students.

Spenser and Luis exemplify the heart of this mission through their dedication to students and their commitment to growing as educators. We are excited to support them as they continue their journeys toward becoming certificated teachers and making an even greater impact in our schools.

Please join us in congratulating Spenser and Luis on this well-deserved recognition and applauding all those who are taking bold steps to become tomorrow’s inspiring teachers.
