Long-time Chain Lake Elementary P.E. teacher, Mr. Christy, was showered with gifts, songs, cards, advice, and plenty of laughs all week long by staff and students to honor his 27 years of teaching at Chain Lake and to celebrate a milestone birthday. The week concluded on his special day with the majority of the staff and student body dressed in black to razz the comedic teacher about his "old age."
Mr. Christy began his teaching career as a student teacher at both Monroe Middle School and Chain Lake Elementary. He then landed his first teaching job as the P.E. teacher at Chain Lake in 1991 and has been there ever since. Between his many years of teaching P.E., and his 18 years of coaching baseball in Monroe, Mr. Christy has taught/coached over 3,500 students in our community. He says about 50 of his current students have parents whom he also had as students years ago.
Not only does Mr. Christy have the longest tenure of any teacher at Chain Lake, he also is a well-respected, engaging, humble teacher who is adored by almost every student he has ever taught and every colleague he has ever worked with.
"He is just a funny, all-around nice guy who everyone loves to be around," said Chain Lake Secretary, Sherry Carswell, who has worked at Chain Lake with Mr. Christy since he first started.
"Not only does he know every student by name, he also has endearing nicknames for the majority of them," added Office Manager, Kim Kirschenmann. "He keeps learning fun by involving the kids in current music selections and physical activities."
Thank you for your dedication to the Monroe School District and years of service to the Monroe community. You make us #ProudtobeinMSD Mr. Christy!
