Safety & Security Improvements
Keeping our students and staff safe while at school is our number one priority. If approved by voters in February 2026, the School Construction Bond would provide funding to make facility improvements to increase security at schools, repair and/or replace safety systems, and make improvements for increased safety and accessibility at all schools district-wide.
Adding Secure Main Entrance Vestibules
While all of our schools have locked front doors and a video doorbell entrance system, some of our schools do not have secure main entrance vestibules, which goes beyond locked front doors and a video doorbell by adding an extra layer of protection.
Secure vestibules ensure visitors can only enter into a contained, monitored space (not directly into the school) where staff can verify identification and purpose face-to-face before unlocking access to the rest of the building. This design physically separates visitors from students and staff until they are cleared, greatly reducing the risk of unauthorized or unsafe entry.
The addition of secure vestibules at Chain Lake Elementary, Fryelands Elementary, and Monroe High School would enhance school safety by creating a controlled, locked entry point where visitors are screened before gaining access to the building, preventing unauthorized entry, and keeping students and staff safe.
Other Safety Improvements
Safety improvements at schools district-wide would also include updates to improve ADA accessibility, updates to fire and security alarm systems, adding integrated key systems, rekeying doors, installing CO2 sensors, replacing emergency antennae systems for emergency responders, replacing/repairing fire sprinkler systems, installing outdoor lighting, replacing worn stair treads, and other necessary safety improvements.
*Estimated cost of these improvements: $4,888,072
*Cost estimates include projected inflation through 2028, which aligns with the anticipated completion timeline for most of the proposed projects, irf approved by voters. Actual costs may vary depending on project schedules but will not exceed the total voter-approved maximum of $152,048,846.
