2015 School Construction Bond

In 2015, a supermajority of Monroe voters (62.74%) approved a School Construction Bond (sometimes referred to as a Capital Project Bond) totaling $110,970,000. In addition, Monroe School District received roughly $20.5 million in State Construction Assistance Program funding and $640,000 in Mitigation Impact Fees, to fund a total of roughly $132 million in capital construction and improvements.
As promised to our community, the majority of this money was dedicated to rebuilding/modernizing Park Place Middle School, rebuilding/modernizing the majority of Salem Woods Elementary School, expanding Frank Wagner Elementary and Hidden River Middle School, and building all-weather ball fields at Monroe High School. The rest of the money was used for infrastructure and safety and security improvements throughout the entire district. All of these projects were determined to be the highest priority by the Capital Projects Steering Committee during their many meetings with the community prior to placing the measure on the ballot.
The timeline for the projects intentionally focused on completing all of the major construction projects first to avoid inflation of construction and materials costs and then shifted to completing the rest of the smaller scale facility improvements and upgrades across the rest of the district by the end of 2022.
