Cultural Competency, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (CCDEI)

We are committed to creating a safe, caring, and inclusive environment within the Monroe School District so that all students, families and staff feel welcomed, valued and supported. Our schools are enriched by our diverse community, which includes, but is not limited to, diversity in race, religion, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic level, mental and physical differences, age and sexual orientation. However, we know from our experiences that biases are real, they negatively affect our students, staff, and community and we can do more as a school community to address them.

As a starting point, we are working to identify issues, prioritize support, and ensure that the diversity of our community is represented in decision-making processes with regards to diversity, equity and inclusion. We are committed to being transparent with our community and we want to be held accountable. As such, we will continue to communicate about our progress through our routine staff and family communications and on our website.

Equity work is not something that one person can do alone or that can be accomplished in a matter of days or weeks. This is long-term work that must be sustained and deepened over time. We are committed to this work personally, organizationally, and as a community. Thank you for partnering with us in this work.
