Park Place Auxiliary Gym Construction Complete

The excitement in the air could be felt as Park Place Middle School students waited to get the first peek of their new auxiliary gym this week. When students ceremoniously cut the ribbon they went down in history as the first PE class to use the new gym.

The excitement in the air could be felt as Park Place Middle School students waited to get the first peek of their new auxiliary gym this week. When students ceremoniously cut the ribbon they went down in history as the first PE class to use the new gym.

Construction of the small gym was part of the large-scale modernization project at PPMS and was funded by the 2015 bond. The new gym is connected to the existing large gym, which is set to undergo a complete modernization beginning this summer.

The auxiliary gym features four basketball hoops, an electronic scoreboard and rubberized flooring that is cushioned, durable and easy to clean and thanks to ample windows, is filled with natural light. Additional features include a new mat hoist system that lifts and stores wrestling mats up high on the wall so we are able to maximize the newly added storage spaces for other gym and athletic equipment.

Because the entire PPMS modernization project is being completed in phases over the course of two years, a condition of our City Building Permit limits the campus to only school-related activities until all of the construction is complete. While all of the new facilities will be available for community use once all construction is complete in the Fall of 2018, for safety and security reasons, facility use in the interim will be restricted to staff and student use only.

Many, many thanks to our community for supporting the construction of modernized facilities for our Park Place students!
