Sky Valley Education Center

Sky Valley Education Center (SVEC) was originally constructed with some materials containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). These included fluorescent light ballasts, caulk, and sealants.

The Monroe School District has made efforts to address these legacy building materials, including the removal of the PCB-containing light ballasts and accessible caulking. Caulk remains around window units, door units, wall penetrations, adjacent support columns, and window infill systems. Remaining accessible caulk and the adjacent surfaces have been encapsulated beneath a gray or tan epoxy coating that you will see inside and outside the building.

The Monroe School District continues to work with regulatory health officials, including the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Snohomish Health District, to monitor environmental health conditions at SVEC. This includes periodic indoor air quality testing and wipe sampling.

The safety of our students, families, and staff is our top priority and we are committed to transparency and collaboration to ensure a healthy learning environment for all.
