In order to ensure an equitable education for every student, we utilize a variety of curriculum resources to address specific learning needs. In conjunction with powerful instruction, the following curriculum resources are currently used in our schools. While some resources have been implemented across nearly all of our schools, others are in pilot stages and used only in select sites.
i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine students' needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet students exactly where they are and provides data for us to increase their learning gains.
i-Ready consists of two parts: Diagnostic and Instruction.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions.
i-Ready Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual skill level and needs, so your child can learn at a pace that is just right for them. These lessons are fun and interactive to keep your child engaged as they learn
If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact your school's administrators. You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter.
K-12 mathematics requires more than memorization of facts and formulas. It calls for students to be able to understand mathematical reasoning, to use multiple methods while developing number sense, and to develop a variety of problem-solving strategies. The Monroe School District uses Eureka Math for our K-5 math curriculum.
To help parents address questions children may have about Eureka Math at home, Great Mind's has developed Parent Tip Sheets (K—8) that provide an overview of each topic. These tip sheets include suggested strategies and models, key vocabulary, connections to previous learning, and tips for how you can support your student’s learning at home. They are arranged in the same sequence as the student homework, making it easy for families to follow along with their student's progress.
The Common Core State Standards are the Washington State K–12 ELA Learning Standards. The standards describe what students should know and be able to do at each grade level. The Best Practices for Instruction are concepts, ideas, and practices that encourage a more equitable and just educational system. Frank Wagner Elementary
Teacher’s College Units of Study in Reading and Writing
The Monroe School District uses Mystery Science as our core science curriculum for K-5. Mystery Science uses questions as the basis of scientific discovery.
Within a Mystery Science activity, students start with a question, such as "Why is the sky blue" and then investigate the science and scientific phenomena that lead students to discover the answers to the question. If you're interested in supporting your student the science lesson being taught at school, contact your student's classroom teacher and they can share with you the "Student Link", which will give you access to that lesson for a few days.
