Monroe School District will be asking voters to renew the expiring School Program & Operations (SP&O) Levy this February. The renewal of the SP&O levy would not be a new tax; it would be a replacement of an expiring levy that would continue to bridge the gap between what the state funds as basic education and the cost of all the programs, services, and essential staff the Monroe School District provides for its students.

A renewal of the four-year SP&O levy would continue to fund many critical day-to-day operations, programs and services not fully funded by the state, including:

  • Athletics and extracurricular activities, such as band, choir and drama
  • Additional teachers to keep class sizes low
  • School safety and security
  • Student transportation
  • Special education programs
  • Student support programs
  • Professional learning for staff
  • Operations and building maintenance costs
  • Supplies and materials
  • Competitive salaries and benefits beyond what the state funds
  • Additional staff, such as nurses and mental health counselors
