College in the High School

Students in grades 9-12 have the opportunity to earn college credits through Everett Community College for designated College in the High School (CHS) courses (see course list below), offering them the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit for advanced, college-level coursework right at Monroe High School!

Beginning in the 2023-24 school year, tuition is FREE for all CHS credits earned through Everett Community College!

Students may earn five (5) college credits for most College in the High School (CHS) courses at MHS; however, there are a select few CHS courses at MHS where students may earn 10-15 college credits. Year-long courses require students to complete the full year with the same teacher in order to earn college credits. Students who do not complete the full year will not earn any college credit - partial credit is not awarded.

All students who register through Everett Community College and successfully complete a CHS course at Monroe High School will receive the CHS designation on their high school transcripts (letter C). Students will be responsible for submitting their final EvCC college transcript separately to the college they plan to attend.

College credits earned will transfer to the community college system within Washington State. The admissions offices at four-year universities make determinations regarding the acceptance of any or all of these credits. It is recommended that students visit individual university websites to learn about their credit transfer policies.

Registering for College in the High School

MHS teachers who teach CHS courses are required to notify their students and families about the opportunity to earn college credit through EvCC, registration deadlines, and to support their students and families with the EvCC registration process. Registration, however, must be completed by the student/family through Everett Community College (this is not done through Monroe High School).

The deadline to register for year-long CHS courses and first semester CHS courses through EvCC was DECEMBER 8, 2023.

CHS registration information and directions can be found on the EvCC website HERE.

If you need help with the CHS registration process, please reach out to your CHS teacher at MHS or email collegeinhs@everettcc.edu.
