Maltby Elementary Leadership Changes for 2026-27

Maltby Elementary Leadership Changes for 2026-27

Dear Maltby Elementary Families,

I am pleased to share that Leah Ringer, the current Assistant Principal at Maltby Elementary, has been selected as Interim Principal for the 2026-27 school year.

Before looking ahead, I want to recognize and thank Christine Hillestad for her years of dedicated service and leadership at Maltby Elementary. Ms. Hillestad has made a lasting impact on our students, staff, and families, and her commitment to the Maltby community has helped shape the school into the special place it is today. We are deeply grateful for her contributions, and she will be greatly missed.

At this time of year, it is common for school districts to appoint interim leaders for the upcoming school year and then make a longer-term leadership decision after having the opportunity to assess the school's needs and priorities. As such, we anticipate making a long-term decision regarding the Maltby Elementary principal position for the following 2027-28 school year by December 2026.

Mrs. Ringer is a valued member of the Maltby community and brings a deep understanding of our students, staff, and families. Prior to joining Monroe School District, she served as both a teacher in the Mukilteo School District and a Dean of Students in the Shoreline School District, building a strong foundation of educational and leadership experience. I am confident she will do an outstanding job leading Maltby Elementary next school year.

In addition, Shauna Briggs, the current Assistant Principal at Hidden River Middle School, will join Mrs. Ringer as a half-time Assistant Principal at Maltby Elementary. Mrs. Briggs will continue serving half-time in her role at Hidden River Middle School as well.

Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Ringer and Mrs. Briggs on their new roles.

Sincerely,

Shawn Woodward
Superintendent
