Starting kindergarten is a big transition for most children. To support this transition and prepare students for a successful start to school, all of our elementary schools offer a FREE Kindergarten Jumpstart program a few weeks before the school year begins in August.

During Kindergarten Jumpstart, students will visit their new school, get acquainted with basic daily school routines, become familiar with the school environment, and engage in various hands-on learning activities. They will also have the chance to practice taking the school bus, if you live in an area where school bus transportation is available.

Kindergarten Jumpstart is offered at all our elementary schools, but participation is optional. Incoming kindergarten students must be enrolled in the Monroe School District for the 2024-25 school year to attend.

When is Jumpstart?

• Chain Lake, Fryelands, Maltby and Salem Woods Elementaries: August 13-15, 2024 from 8:45–11:45 a.m. 
• Frank Wagner Elementary only: August 12-15, 2024 from 8:45-11:45 a.m.

Students will be provided a snack, but meals will not be offered.

Signing Up for Jumpstart

Families who would like to have their child attend Kindergarten Jumpstart must sign. The easiest way to sign up is by filling out and submitting this sign-up form. You may also call the school where your student will be attending in the fall and let them know you'd like to sign up for Jumpstart. If you've already signed up, that's wonderful! There's no need to do so again.

Transportation

School bus transportation to your neighborhood school is available if you live more than one mile away from the school for students attending Chain Lake Elementary, Frank Wagner Elementary, Maltby Elementary, and Salem Woods Elementary. If your residence meets that criteria and you would like your child to ride the bus to Jumpstart, please indicate that on the Kindergarten Jumpstart sign-up form or let the school know when you call to sign-up. If you would like transportation, you must sign up for Jumpstart by August 2, 2024.

If your child rides the bus, it is important to know that for the safety of our students, a parent or designee (who has been pre-authorized by the parent in writing) must be present at their assigned bus stop in order for the bus driver to let kindergarten students off the bus.
