Become a Watch D.O.G. at Maltby Elementary!

Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is a volunteer program that brings positive adult role models into our school. Watch D.O.G.S. are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures who volunteer for at least a half day at our school.

When you step into this role, you’re not just “helping out” – you’re showing students that school is important, that they are seen, and that they matter.

Why Watch D.O.G.S. Matter

The Watch D.O.G.S. program has two main goals:

  • Positive role models: Your presence on campus shows students that education is important and that adults in their community care about them.

  • Extra eyes and ears: You help create a safe, welcoming environment by being an additional adult presence in hallways, common areas, and around the school.

The program is coordinated by our volunteer “Top Dog,” who works with the school administrator to organize the schedule and match Watch D.O.G.S. with meaningful ways to support the school.

What You’ll Do as a Watch D.O.G.

On your volunteer day, you’ll receive:

  • A quick overview of your role
  • A schedule for the day
  • An official Watch D.O.G.S. t-shirt and a disposable “Dog Tag” so students and staff can easily recognize you

Your day might include:

  • Reading with students or practicing flash cards
  • Playing games and being a positive presence at recess
  • Eating lunch with students
  • Greeting students and helping monitor entrances and hallways
  • Assisting with traffic flow during arrival or dismissal
  • Supporting staff with simple tasks throughout the building

You’ll interact not only with your own child, but with many students who benefit from seeing caring adult role models in their school.

Step 1: You must first be cleared as a volunteer by completing the volunteer application, which includes a background screening. Volunteer Application

Step 2: Once you receive notification that you are cleared to volunteer, you can sign up for a volunteer Watch D.O.G. shift (half day or full day) at Maltby Elementary here:
