Middle & High School Sexual Health Curriculum Parent Info Night

Families of middle and high school students are invited to an informational meeting to learn about the state requirements and instructional materials for sexual health instruction in the Monroe School District. During this session, families will:

  • Learn about Washington State requirements for sexual health education.
  • Review the scope and sequence of lessons that will be taught in middle and high school this year.
  • Have an opportunity to preview the instructional materials that will be used.
  • Ask questions and learn how to request an opt-out, if desired.

  • 6:30–7:00 p.m. – Presentation on state requirements and lesson overview
  • 7:00–7:30 p.m. – Open viewing of instructional materials (self-paced review)

Spanish translation will be available.

A separate elementary information session will be scheduled later this school year.

As a reminder, our instruction follows the Washington State Health and SEL Standards, RCW 28A.300.475 and RCW 28A.230.070, as well as school board policy and community input.

Key Information for Families:

  • There is no sexual health instruction in grades PreK–3.
  • Students receive comprehensive sexual health instruction once in elementary, twice in middle school, and twice in high school.
  • HIV/AIDS education is taught annually in grades 5–12.
  • Families may opt out of HIV or sexual health lessons; forms are available on the district website.
