We are excited to announce the start of MHS Bearcat Athletics! We will begin our shortened six-week seasons for all sports in alignment with the approved WESCO League plan. This is a lot of information, and it is important to note that things continue to change as we go. Please reach out to the Athletics Department if you have any questions.
- Fall Sports: February 22nd - April 3rd
- Spring Sports: March 29th - May 8th (There will be competitions and practices through Spring Break.)
- Winter Sports: May 3rd - June 12th
***Sports will be held in their traditional seasons; however, we are shifting the seasons to Fall/Spring/Winter to hopefully allow more time for the Puget Sound Region to move into the phase when indoor, high risk sports are allowed to compete as well.
The Governor’s Office, in coordination with the State Department of Health and Washington Interscholastic Athletics Association (WIAA), has specified the Healthy WA Sport & Activity Guidelines about practices and competitions that we will follow. Additionally, the WESCO League Return-to-Play Protocol includes additional requirements at a league level. There are many aspects that will look different this year in light of COVID, and perhaps the most significant to those directly involved is the decision to not have spectators at this time. We are exploring ways to livestream some events. Please stay tuned for more information along these lines.
Our in-person, General Conditioning Workouts for students ended on Thursday, February 18th. Due to WIAA regulations and the start of official sports seasons, students now have the option to:
- Participate in an in-season sport
- Join an out-of-season sports program
- Discontinue on-campus, education-based athletic involvement at this time
For options 1 or 2, parents or guardians should complete the online athletic registration via their parent Family Access account and fulfill all participation requirements.
Interested in participating in MHS Bearcat Athletics?
The parent or guardian of any MSD high school (9th-12th grade) student interested in participating in MHS Bearcat Athletics should complete the online athletic registration via their parent Family Access account and fulfill all participation requirements.
You can find directions about how to register by reading the MHS Athletic Information 2020-2021 panel below. Please carefully and thoroughly read through the entire document. While registration is open for all sports at this time, priority processing through Monday, March 1st, will be given to student-athletes interested in a fall sport. Online athletic registration and participation requirements must be completed by the following deadlines to be eligible to participate on the first day of practice:
- Fall Sports Deadline: 7:00 am Friday, 2/19/2021
- Spring Sports Deadline: 7:00 am Friday, 3/26/2021
- Winter Sports Deadline: 7:00 am Friday, 4/30/2021
How will you know if your student-athlete is eligible?
An updated clearance spreadsheet will be posted each weekday at 3:00 pm on the MHS Athletics website. Registrations submitted by 1:00 pm will be reflected on this clearance spreadsheet. If your student-athlete is not cleared by 3:00 pm that day, they are not eligible to participate in practice that day. Due to the sensitive nature of the information being publicly displayed, participation requirements status is shown by the STUDENT ID number.
To find a student ID number:
- 1. Log in to Skyward Student Access or Family Access
- 2. Select Student Info from the left column
- 3. Record “other ID” number found beneath the student picture. It should be a 7-digit number.
