Policy 2151P

The Athletics and Activities Code shall govern all interscholastic athletics, student body officers, cheerleaders, dance/drill team, performing drama groups, performing music groups, debate, DECA, FFA, FCCLA, Sports Medicine, student leadership groups, and any other activity organization or group recognized by the ASB that represents the school in public and in competition.

Participation in athletics and activities in the Monroe School District is a privilege. Because students involved in athletics and activities perform and represent their school in public, they are expected to conduct themselves at all times in a manner that will reflect the high standards and ideals of their sport, activity, team, school, and community. By signing the conduct code, students understand that it covers standards of conduct both in and out of season. This conduct code will remain in effect for one calendar year after it is signed. Note: It is required that the Athletics and Activities Code of Conduct be provided to all student participants and parents in its entirety.

To be able to compete or participate in any interscholastic sport or activity sanctioned by the WIAA, including but not limited to cheerleading, dance, drill team, forensics/debate, drama and music, students must meet the following academic standards established by the Board of Directors of the Monroe School District:

1. Receive a minimum 2.0 Grade Point average (transcripted grades) in the immediately preceding semester in order to participate and be eligible to compete during the succeeding semester;

2. Pass the number of transcripted classes outlined in the WIAA handbook (Student Standards for Interscholastic Eligibility rule 18.7.0)

3. Participation in a District summer school or acceptable alternate program may change transcripted grades.

Grade check periods: At the start of each season (previous semester) and mid-quarter and/or quarter/semester report date

Start of season grade check:

• Students must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average and pass the number of classes required per WIAA rule 18.7.0 the previous semester to be eligible to participate. Failing to meet this standard will result in academic ineligibility. The start of season ineligibility period for high school students shall be through the last Saturday in September for fall sports or the first five (5) weeks of the succeeding semester/trimester or activity/sport season.

• Each student is eligible on Monday of the week following the end of the suspension period pending a successful grade check. Three or more teaching days shall constitute a week.

• High school winter season athletes or middle school second sport season athletes who participated in activities in the first sport season in the fall and served an ineligibility period the first five (5) weeks at the beginning of the fall sport season – will not be considered academically ineligible a second time. However, first quarter grades must meet the academic eligibility standards. Inability to meet the initial start of the season academic standards will result in the same ineligibility provisions indicated in previous section.

During the season grade check: Interim progress reports and/or semester reports during the season.

• Students must pass the number of classes required per WIAA rule 18.7.0 to be eligible to continue participation in interscholastic activities/athletics. Failing to meet this standard will result in academic ineligibility and the student will be placed on academic probation.
